How it Became...
+
Cat and Tin first met in Oakland at the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival in 2007 while both were passing out "Know Your Rights" material. At the time, they had no idea that they had met the person that they were destined to be with. Cat was from California, and had little knowledge of North Carolina, where Tin called home. With so much distance between each other, neither thought that they would ever see each other again--much less plan to spend their lives together.
Cat and Tin lost contact with each other for years but finally reconnected via Facebook in 2010 when Tin sent Cat a friend request and she accepted. At this time, Cat was living in Viet Nam. They communicated through Facebook "likes," eventually moving onto "g-chat", and over some time, Tin eventually became Cat’s “Skype-buddy”. They began cultivating a friendship based on their mutual respect, interests, and their undying Viet-pride. A year later, when Cat returned to the U.S., Cat and Tin would cross paths once again in New Orleans following the BP oil spill where they both volunteered to provide legal assistance to Vietnamese fisher folk.
Cat and Tin (but Tin before Cat) began to realize that their ancestors were trying everything for them to be together. However, they were still separated by great distances. As fate would have it, in Cat’s transitions, she had a temporary job opportunity in Charlotte. Finally, Tin again tried to make Cat his by spitting his #1-A game, but this time without the long distance separation. Now 3 years later, they are ready to endeavor to what fate had in store for them all along. Their story is a testament of how love can transcend time and space to bring two people together, who belong by each others' side. With a little help from modern technology, of course.
